How To Spend The Day At The Blue Lagoon in Cyprus

With Cyprus being located in the Mediterranean, you can enjoy beautiful beaches and of course, beautiful mediterranean waters. Though did you know that Cyprus has a Blue Lagoon? It is located in the northwestern part of Cyprus and is a must do if you’re visiting.

How to get to the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus

There really is only one way to get to the Blue Lagoon, which is by boat. There is no walking trail to get to it on your own and while my research did find some ATV trails. The vast majority of visitors go by boat as it is the most scenic, the quickest, and easiest overall.

Types of boats that you can take:

Swimming at the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus

Beautiful, clear water at the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus. There is a beach you can swim to as well.

Where do you depart from to get to the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus?

Most excursions depart from Latchi Harbour, which is near Akamas National Park.

When can you go to the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus?

Most boat and swimming tours go from March until the end of October. We went in October for their morning cruise and the weather was perfect.

How to get to Latchi Harbour

The quickest way is going to be by car. We had a car rental, which made the drive only 45 minutes from Paphos where we were staying.

You can also go by taxi. If you’re going from Paphos, it can cost around €50 to €70.

You can also get there by bus. Though it will take significantly longer. For example, a bus ride from Paphos to Latchi Harbour is 2 hours and 24 minutes thought the cost is only 5 euros. You can see their bus schedule here.

Despite there being a few other cruise boats, it wasn’t overly packed. This was in October.

Overview of taking the Alkion II Glass Bottom Boat in Cyprus

My group and I opted for the Glass Bottom Boat. I liked this option because their website was super easy to navigate to buy tickets online. Though you can book tickets at the harbour on the same day if they’re not already sold out.

They also had great communication. The night before our trip, the company contacted us to reschedule because the original date had canceled due to weather and super rocky waves, but they made it easy for us to reschedule for the following day. They did provide the option to cancel as well but we all really wanted to go. Luckily, the weather on the reschedule day ended up being perfect. To me, their system felt very reliable.

The boat itself is slighlty smaller than some of the other cruise boats but it can fit around 70 people comfortably.

The views you get on the boat are absolutely stunning. There was music playing on the boat and it was a great way to soak in the views of the Mediterranean. It is a 1 hour cruise to get to the Blue Lagoon from the harbour.

Along the way, we also got to see:

  • Bath of Aphrodite

  • St. George Church

  • St. George Island

  • Plaji Bay

  • Manolis Bay

  • Chamili Island & Blue Lagoon

When we arrived at the Blue Lagoon, there were only 6 other boats. Some large and some small but it was not overcrowded when while we were there swimming. We had one hour to swim and there was even a slide one go down on our boat. There’s also a beach that you’re able to swim to.

Our boat had snacks including fruit platters, Cyprion beer, and other drinks.

The cost for this experience was 25 euros per adult (15 euros per child under 11), which I find to be a great deal for what you get and the time you spend on the cruise boat. We all loved the experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone else who wants to go to the Blue Lagoon.

Where to eat along the Latchi Harbour

Along the harbour, there are many cafes and restaurants. A restaurant I recommend is Restomare Latchi. It had great vegan options (something for everyone honestly) including a delicious carrot cake dessert! It was the perfect place for lunch. Right in front where we boarded for our boat tour and had a great view of the harbour.
